Center-Level and Socioeconomic Variation in Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) Depression Scores: Real-World Evidence from the Multiple Sclerosis Continuous Quality Improvement (MS-CQI) Research Collaborative Study (2017-2020).

We found that PwMS followed by the MS-CQI centers experienced significant differences in PHQ-9 depression severity based on their socioeconomic status, specifically in the areas of education, annual income, and marital status. Our findings add to growing evidence of the importance of social and behavioral determinants of health in the mental health assessment and intervention for people with MS and the imperative to address the needs of the most vulnerable and underserved in the MS community.
