In healthcare we often focus on errors in an effort to learn from our mistakes and avoid further harm. Unfortunately this fails to recognise that the vast majority of what we do is not only good but is practice that improves outcomes and should be shared. GREATix is a peer to peers reporting system that gives staff the opportunity to recognise what has gone well. It comes from Learning From Excellence that started in Birmingham in 2014. In our department, we have been using it since 2019 and to date 343 GREATix nominations have been sent to over 1000 members of staff. Feedback from staff who received a GREATix strongly reveals that this recognition has boosted their morale, given them a sense of belonging and encouraged them to practice to the highest standards. By sending a GREATix to a colleague, we will improve staff recognition, help build a strong team environment and ultimately improve patients safety.
