Sexual Safety: Developing a robust process for public and patient protection

I would like to present an audit (Power Point presentation) of pre-leave risk assessments for forensic psychiatric inpatients who are known to present a risk of sexual violence. Forest Lodge is a transitional male mental illness Low Secure Unit in Sheffield, England. It cares for 10 acutely unwell patients on its Assessment Ward, and 12 further patients on its Rehabilitation ward. Following an incident in 2019 with one of our patients, an investigation was launched by the NHS Trust into its practises around risk assessment for sexual violence. Based on its recommendations, in this audit we seek to identify current standards of practise, suggest improvements where necessary, attempt to identify a Gold Standard for sexual risk assessment, and discuss any issues raised by the audit. This audit represent the initial stages in what is hoped will be a process of Trust-wide improvement in the assessment of sexual offending risk.
